Language of the Western Rivers, a River Currents special supplement.
The Western Rivers, one of the most colorful areas in America, have a language of their own. Some of the terms date back to the keelboat era, and some from the steamboat era. New terms come into use as conditions change and transportation methods improve. In 1962 the Second Coast Guard District compiled a glossary of terms used on the rivers, with the help and advice of the Corps of Engineers, editors of the Waterway Journal, river historians, and many experienced captains and pilots. The first booklet was revised in a second edition in 1974. Marine Education Textbooks is reprinting it today as an aid to new people who will be working on the rivers.
 8 ½ x 11, spiral-bound, about 22 pages.
