CD information service

Navigational information that in the past
was printed and mailed by government agencies is no longer available that
way. Instead, it is posted to web sites, and mariners are encouraged to
download what they need. Many vessels, however, do not have a reliable
Internet connection, although they do have personal computers on board. For
these vessels, Pilothouse is offering a CD subscription service.
THE SERVICE. Every week we download
information from public maritime web sites, write it onto disk, and mail the
disks to our subscribers.
CONTENTS. Each disk contains:
-
Local
Notices to Mariners from all Coast Guard districts: 1 Boston, 5 Norfolk, 7
Miami, 8 New Orleans, 9 Cleveland, 11,
Alameda, 13 Seattle ,14 Honolulu, and 17 Anchorage.
- NTM Notices to Mariners, world-wide,
issued jointly by NGA (formerly known as DMA), the U.S. Coast Guard, and
National Ocean Service.
- Canadian Notices to Mariners
issued monthly by the Canadian Coast Guard.
- NVICs (Navigation and Vessel
Inspection Circulars) issued from time to time by the U.S. Coast Guard.
- NOS and CHS Dates of Latest Editions,
monthly.
BACKUP. Each downloaded file is
included in two consecutive weekly mailings. Thus, if a disk is lost or
damaged in the mail, help is only a week away.
USAGE. The user may simply read the
files on his monitor screen, or may choose to print out all or selected
parts on his printer. All of the information is in the public domain, and
can be reproduced and transmitted freely, with no copyright restrictions.
PRICE. A single-vessel subscription
is $75.00 per quarter (postage included).
DISCOUNTS. Multiple subscriptions on
a single consolidated fleet bill are discounted ten percent.
BILLING. Subscriptions are billed
each quarter, in advance. Subscriptions beginning during the quarter are
pro-rated.
