Marine Fire Fighting

This manual addresses the shipboard fire fighting requirements of the various maritime regulatory organizations.  Of all the perils at sea, one of the most frightening is fire.  Written training materials for shipboard fire fighting have been scarce and the materials that did exist are sorely out of date.  International regulation require all mariners to receive fire fighting training.  Marine Fire Fighting was written for mariners having commercial shipboard duties that include fire fighting and other operations during an emergency.  It covers all subjects pertaining to shipboard fire fighting and the requirements of maritime regulatory organizations such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard, and International Maritime Organization.

This first edition of Marine Fire Fighting provides training and skills development for all who work on the waters and seas of the world.  When on board, vessel personnel must be their own fire department, police, and ambulance.  This manual endeavors to improve the basic and advanced knowledge and skill of shipboard crew members and also to interface with land-based firefighters who respond to shipboard fires.

Skill sheets that give detailed steps for various procedures are also included.  Marine Fire Fighting provides a resource to the mariner for use when attending courses, for self-study, and when instructing others.  The text includes an overview of fire science and chemistry as it applies to the mariner and the vessel.  It also contains discussions of the causes of fire on board and fire prevention procedures.
